  2018 Schedule of Events:

Blue Ridge Boxster Summit 2018 officially commences on Wednesday, May 30th with the meet-and-greet at Little Switzerland, North Carolina's Switzerland Inn, followed by the kickoff dinner.

"Early Wednesday" and "Early Early Tuesday" events are for those who wish to get an early start, which most folks are now participating in.

The 2017 Schedule is set out below, and the 2018 Schedule will be posted early 2018.

Wednesday, May 31, 2017
9:30 AM - 11:30 AM  Leave Switzerland Inn parking lot and drive to Cherokee, North Carolina; others plan to arrive en route. Set GPS to  1037 Soco Rd, Maggie Valley, NC 28751 for those attending the 11:30 a.m. lunch, or 777 Casino Dr, Cherokee, NC 28719, for those missing lunch and heading straight to the casino.

The lunch crowd will be at the casino by 1:30 p.m.
11:30 AM - 4:00 PM  The Early Early Event

"
BRBS Gold Rush"

"There's gold in them thar hills," and BRBS is going to claim all of it!

One-Arm Bandits, saloons, and more as we spend the day at Harrah's Cherokee Casino - 777 Casino Drive, Cherokee, NC.

On the way to the casino, we'll be stopping off in Maggie Valley to eat lunch at 11:30 a.m. at Frankie's Italian Trattoria, a relaxed eatery offering classic Italian fare. We'll have a fix price menu of $15.95 per person, payable at the restaurant. Set your GPS to 1037 Soco Rd, Maggie Valley, NC 28751.

After lunch, folks will head on to the casino which is 30 minutes further up the road.

Others not going to the casino will travel to Mingo Falls. At 120 feet tall, the waterfall is one of the tallest and most spectacular in the southern Appalachians. The hike to the waterfall is only 0.4 miles in length, but is considered moderate in difficulty.
4:00 PM - 6:00 PM  Leave Cherokee and return to Switzerland Inn
7:00 PM - ??  Join other early-arriving cowgirls, cowboys and local wranglers at the Switzerland Inn's Outdoor Saloon overlooking the pool, the Inn's new campfire feature, and the Catawba Valley for an evening of music with Ron Moore, oysters, wings, and other goodies.

9:30 AM - 10:45 AM  Leave Switzerland Inn parking lot and travel to Fletcher, North Carolina. 
11:00 AM - 2:00 PM  The Early Event

"BRBS Tours the Sierra Nevadas"
- "Go west, young man!"

We'll be heading west to the Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. in Fletcher, North Carolina, for a private tour of the brewery and a sit-down menu lunch.

The address for the Brewery is: 100 Sierra Nevada Way, Fletcher, NC 28732

Allow an hour-and-a-half travel time to the Brewery from Switzerland Inn if you go the quickest way. If you mosey down the Blue Ridge Parkway for some or most of the way, plan a lot more lead time.

The Brewery will be taking us on four private tours at 11:00am, 11:30am, 12:30pm, and 1:00pm for up to 25 people each, with the last tour at 1:00 p.m. currently set for 12 people.

The tour cost of $15/person.

Be sure to check in with Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. at least 15 minutes ahead of time and bring valid photo IDs.

We'll be eating lunch at the Brewery, too. Payment will be made directly to the restaurant.
For those who choose:

Group #3 - the 12:30 p.m. tour slot, you will dine at 11:00 a.m.

Group #4 - the 1:00 p.m. tour slot, you will dine at 11:30 a.m.

Group #1 - the 11:00 a.m. tour slot, you will dine at 12:30 noon

Group #2 - the 11:30 p.m. tour slot, you will dine at 1:00 p.m.
After the Tour and Lunch:

Chat with your old and new friends you make on the tour and at lunch. Consider heading back to Switzerland Inn via the Blue Ridge Parkway together for some or all of the way. Head to downtown Asheville and take in the sights there. 

Remember, though, to be back in Little Switzerland by around 5:30 p.m. to leave plenty of time to hit the BRBS Saloon and get ready for the Opening Dinner.

Parking: When looking at the main building, our designated parking is at the far right side of the parking lot.

7:30 AM - 9:30 AM  "BRBS Breakfast Buffet" in the Chalet Restaurant at Switzerland Inn. Included in the event registration.
9:30 AM - 3:30 PM  "BRBS 2017 Friday Fun Runs" - Select from five different Fun Runs depending upon your interest in driving, touring the area, and seeing the sights. Any Fun Run admission fees or lunch costs are not included in the event registration fee. Information will be in each group participant's bag at registration.
  1. Cowboy & Cowgirl Whisky Run

    We all know the West couldn’t have been won without whiskey.  So how’s this stuff made?  Let’s find out! Keith & Tina Felts along with Jim & Teresa Covington will lead a posse to Blue Ridge Distilling Company in Bostic, NC, the makers of Defiant, an American single malt whiskey.  After the distillery tour we’ll head out on some winding trails to Lake Lure where we’ll enjoy some good grub at Larkin’s On The Lake.  We’ll eat on the deck overlooking the water.  The route back to Little Switzerland will challenge your trusty steed as we travel Old Fort Road, Bat Cave Road, Hwy 80, and the Blue Ridge Parkway.

    There is no cost for the distillery tour and the cost for lunch at Larkin's is $17 per person.  Giddy Up!

    Meet Friday morning at 9:15 a.m. in the southwest Parking Lot in front of Heidi Suites and beside the tennis courts for last minute instructions; please be prompt.  Arrive on foot.  Do not bring your cars.  The group will have to leave from both parking lots due to its large group size.

  2. Brick Oven Pizza and Wine Run

    Feed your horses, strap into your Boxsters and join BRBS King Guenter & Queen Michelle Gamauf, along with court jesters Scott and Mary Beth Ishler, on some Porsche friendly, scenic North Carolina trails. Just don't get your spurs tangled in the pedals as you get to shift your way through our curvy route. With all that fresh air and exercise, you're sure to work up an appetite for some great vittles in the form of freshly prepared brick oven baked pizza, along with a sampling of some fine NC wines at the Parker-Binns Vineyard.

    Cost for wine tasting and pizza $17 per person.

    Meet at 9:30 a.m. in the gift shoppe parking lot a/k/a Upper Parking Lot for last minute instructions. Arrive on foot! Don’t bring your cars, leave them where they’re parked initially.

  3. Head for the Hills Fun Run & Hike - Black Rock Nature Trail on Grandfather Mountain

    Head for the Hills and join BRBS veteran mountaineers Bradley Anderson and Karen Kustafik on this Fun Run and one-mile trail hike which, although not strenuous since there is little change in elevation, is across rough terrain that requires choosing every step carefully. The group will take in beautiful, spectacular views from large rock outcrops.

    After hiking this trail, the group will either walk the 0.4-mile Bridge Trail up to the pedestrian suspension bridge near the top of Grandfather Mountain or drive up to the parking area. The view is fantastic! There is also a gift shop and a photo gallery that tells the history of tourism and preservation on the Mountain.

    Following that, the group will drive about halfway down the mountain to the nature museum and wildlife preserve where there are excellent exhibits and an informative video.

    Cost is $20 per person, which includes a guide.

    Meet in the parking lot beside the tennis courts at 9:30 a.m.

  4. Fun In The Hills Run

    For cowboys and cowgirls who want to saddle up for a day of trail riding--translated: for those who want a day of driving their cars--join Rey Fortney & Juliette Tai on this Fun Run and drive some of the best roads right around Little Switzerland where you will encounter some of the finest roads in all of America. Fun for both newcomers and veterans alike.

    This group will spend the day exploring US 19W, Jack’s Creek Road, NC 80, NC 197, and the Road to Roan Mountain, with a lunch along the way, stops at country stores, and lots more.

    Meet in the parking lot beside the tennis courts at 10:15 a.m. 

  5. Biltmore Estate Segway Tour Run

    Back by popular demand from last year’s event, join this Fun Run, caravan to the Biltmore House in Asheville, and mount an electric horse okay, it’s a Segway for a day’s adventure traveling the Great West western Asheville, that is . This guided tour consists of paved and off-road surfaces. After instruction and off-road training exercises, your expert guide will lead the way down a paved path to the Lagoon. From the Lagoon, the tour continues on hard-packed dirt and gravel surfaces. 

    Before making your way back, you will take a break and enjoy a wonderful view of Biltmore House. This tour covers 5.5 miles on paved and off-road trails and will take approximately 2 hours on the Segway. 

    The cost will be $136, and includes admission to the Biltmore House. The exact price is currently being finalized. 

    Meet in the parking lot beside the tennis courts at 9:30 a.m.  
3:30 PM - 6:00 PM  "Afternoon Time with the BRBS Shade Tree Horse-Fixers Stefan and Maurice" - Join the official BRBS Shade Tree Horse-Fixers as they work on DIY projects in the parking lot of the Switzerland Inn.
3:30 PM - 7:30 PM  Free Time to extend your Fun Run, visit the shops in and around the Fun Run locations, and meander back to Little Switzerland to get ready for Friday Night!
7:30 PM - 10:00 PM  "Happy Trails" -- Dinner on the Terrace at Switzerland Inn, included in the registration fee.

Celebrate the Great West under the stars! Listen to cowboy music and unwind from a busy day.

Special presentation by the "BRBS Rhinestone Cowgirls" you won't want to miss!

8:00 AM - 9:30 AM  “Boxster Show Off Your Horses Show” – Gather out on the main lawn at the Switzerland Inn. For those not showing your Boxsters, please stay parked in the upper parking lot the night before to expedite the line-up. Use the 'Show and Shine Spec Sheet' links on the Roster to create and print your spec sheet for your windshield.
9:30 AM - 4:30 PM   "BRBS 2017 Fun Run - Day 2 Optional Runs" - Select from seven different optional Fun Runs depending upon your interest in driving, touring the area, and seeing the sights; or just relax and make your own fun for the day.
  1. French Broad River Rafting Run

    Back by popular demand, caravan to the French Broad River and enjoy a white-water rafting trip taking in Class I-III rapids. This river is much warmer than the Nantahala--BRBS alumni from four years ago will remember how chilly those waters were! This trip will include a lunch en route along the river. Cost is $54 per person, which includes lunch.

    The group will gather in the parking lot in front of the gift & ice cream shoppes at 8:05 a.m. sharp.

  2. Cone Manor Run & Hike

    BRBS veteran mountaineers Bradley Anderson and Karen Kustafik will lead this group as they caravan up the Blue Ridge Parkway to the old Cone Manor which houses the Parkway Craft Center with many beautiful handmade implements, paintings and sculptures.

    There, the group will go on a 5.4 mile hike which is actually a smooth one-lane road, crossing picturesque fields and winding through mature woods. It ascends to a tower that overlooks Blowing Rock and Boone. The group will then split into two smaller groups, tortoise and hare, depending on how quickly people want to walk.

    Afterward, the group will linger in the crafts shop and eat in Blowing Rock. There is no cost for the hike. Lunch will be pay at the restaurant.

    Meet in the parking lot beside the tennis courts at 9:30 a.m. 

  3. Biltmore House and Gardens Run

    Caravan to the famous Biltmore House and Gardens in Asheville, NC. Your self-guided visit of the House will include a stroll through America's largest home on a marked route, assisted by knowledgeable guides along the way. The house tour takes 1.5 to 2 hours, depending on the group’s pace. The group will also tour the famous Gardens and decide on a number of different lunch options. 

    The group rate is $70.00 per person plus lunch.

    The group will meet initially Thursday evening in the Main Lodge lobby immediately after the Dinner to agree upon a leave time from the Switzerland Inn and lunch plans, and to receive the admittance tickets.

    The group has guaranteed, mandatory House admission for 11:30 a.m. Saturday.

  5. Blowing Rock and Boone Run

    Travel up the Blue Ridge Parkway to the bucolic town of Blowing Rock.  Venture along Blowing Rock’s Main Street, shop in the town’s legendary boutiques, and take in Kilwin's and other local must-see stops, lunch at Blowing Rock Brewery Co., and lots more!

    Return to Little Switzerland via U.S. 221.

    Meet at 9:30 a.m. in the gift shop parking lot.    

  6. Area Gem Mine Run

    What would a Western theme be without taking in a real mine?! Travel to and tour the Brushy Creek Mine with aquamarine, garnet, tourmaline, golden beryl and some smoky quartz , get a behind-the-scenes look at this mine, and learn about gem mining in western North Carolina.

    The group, led by Vic and TJ Friedmann, will leave Switzerland Inn at 9:00 a.m. Saturday morning from the gift shoppes parking lot, a/k/a the Upper Lot.

    Bring sure to bring sun hats, sun screen lotion, and work gloves, and wear closed toe shoes and old clothes.

    The group will arrive at the gem mine at 9:30 a.m. The mining company will provide transportation, tools and a guide on this special tour, along with 5 gallon buckets to put finds in. Upon returning, the folks will go through the finds and report what was found and if they are good for cutting or not.  

    The cost for this Fun Run is $80.00 per person.

    Meet at 9:00 a.m. in the gift shop parking lot.    
  7. Asheville Segway Tour Run

  8. Travel down the Blue Ridge Parkway and enjoy a 2˝ hour Segway Tour of the fun places to see in Downtown Asheville. $65 per person, limited to 4 persons.

    This group will decide when it wants to leave for its 1:00 p.m. Tour.

3:30 PM - 6:00 PM  "Afternoon Time with the BRBS Shade Tree Horse-Fixers Stefan and Maurice" - Join the official BRBS Shade Tree Horse-Fixers for the second day of working on DIY projects in the parking lot of the Switzerland Inn.
6:30 PM - 7:30 PM  Cocktail Reception hosted by Karl, Ron, Mary and Nell. - Gather around the Outdoor Saloon at the Switzerland Inn -- complimentary draft beer and wine, cash liquor bar.
7:30 PM - 9:45 PM  “BRBS 2017 'End of the Trail' Dinner” at the Switzerland Inn.

It's been a long ride, and we'll enjoy our final night together with our annual banquet, complete with door prizes and lots of conversation!

What to wear?! Anything goes for this night. Jeans, slacks, cowboy boots, hats -- anything you'd like. Special shoutout to all the guys who wear a bolo.
